NEW TESTAMENT 2023

Come, Follow Me

with

Treasure in Heaven

Reinforces this week’s “Come Follow Me” study: Matthew 19-20; Mark 10; Luke 18
“What Lake I Yet?”

Scripture:

Luke 18:22

“Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.”

Song:

Come Follow Me, Hymn 116

Lesson:

Jesus was approached by a rich young man asking “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He told Jesus that he had kept all of the commandments from his youth. Jesus lovingly told him that there was only one thing he lacked, he should sell all that he had and follow Him. The proud young man was sorrowful, and went away.

Jesus asks all of us to come and follow Him. We can do this by keeping His commandments. It doesn’t matter if we are rich, poor, old, or young, Jesus gives us all the opportunity to repent and turn to Him. Sometimes, like the rich young man, we may be prompted to do something to be better. Let us put our trust in God and try to follow Jesus Christ a little better each day.

Quote:

“To follow Christ is to become more like Him. It is to learn from His character. As spirit children of our Heavenly Father, we do have the potential to incorporate Christlike attributes into our life and character. This process is very complex and very simple at the same time–Ancient and modern prophets described it with three words: ‘Keep the commandments’—nothing more, nothing less.” Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Q&A:

  • What did Jesus ask the rich young man to do?
  • What would you do if Jesus asked you to follow Him?
  • What was the young man giving up for wealth?
  • How can we follow the admonition to “Come, follow me”?
  • What are some of the things that might keep us from following the Savior?
