Come, Follow Me

His Holy Priesthood

Reinforces this week’s “Come Follow Me” study: Alma 13-16
“Enter Into the Rest of the Lord”

Alma 13:6

6 And thus being called by this holy calling, and ordained unto the high priesthood of the holy order of God, to teach his commandments unto the children of men, that they also might enter into his rest–

Alma continues to preach to the people of Ammonihah. He teaches them about the priesthood. He teaches that the Lord ordained high priests after the order of the Son of God. The high priests were called because of their faith to teach the commandments and help people look to Jesus Christ for redemption.

When Alma had finished speaking, the people were angry because he’d told them they were being wicked and needed to repent or they would be destroyed. The people tied up Amulek and Alma and gathered up the people who believed the word of God and threw rocks at them, and cast their families and their scriptures into a fire. Amulek wanted to save them with the power of God, but Alma knew the Lord was receiving these people, and this wicked act of the unbelievers would stand as a witness against them at the last day. Alma and Amulek were cast into prison, and for many days they suffered without food or water. The chief judge came to mock them again, and Alma prayed for strength that the Lord would deliver Alma and Amulek. The prison shook and the walls fell, crushing the wicked people, but Alma and Amulek went free.

“We declare to the world that the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth. We declare with boldness that the keys of the priesthood have been restored to man, with the power to seal on earth and in the heavens. The saving ordinances pronounced by the Lord as requirements for entering into eternal life with Him can now be performed with binding authority by those who worthily exercise the power of His holy priesthood.”
