See Some Real-Life Love with “Heaven is Waiting”

Valentine’s Day traditions such as handmade cards, flowers, and chocolates have persisted through generations. But many in the seasoned generations look at another tradition—romantic movies—and mourn, “Whatever happened to the wholesome love story?” Romantic shows do seem to be getting sleazier. But Living Scriptures is excited to introduce you to at least one film proving that uplifting media isn’t dead.

Three years after the death of his wife, Kate, Ned Stevens is still in mourning and far from ready to start dating again. He’s convinced himself that he’s content to continue talking to his wife as though she’s present, inventing reasons to dislike all of the single women nearby, and enjoying his daughter, Liz.

Fun fact: The movie takes place exactly where most of it was filmed: Midway, Utah. This inspired an alternate name for the film: “Midway to Heaven”.

But then Liz brings home an unwelcome surprise from college: a boyfriend named David (played by the well-loved Kirby Heyborne). David seems pretty much perfect, but Ned isn’t convinced. Are his instincts correct, or does he simply need to open himself up to the idea of his daughter being in love?

Meanwhile, Liz has taken it upon herself to push her dad headfirst into the dating pool again. Ned plucks up the courage to ask out the beautiful and independent Carol but is quickly overwhelmed by the upheaval in his life. Will his unresolved grief keep him from finding love and happiness again?

This Valentine’s Day, ditch the fairytales and lewdness of the average romantic film. Instead, showy your family something clean and true to life. You can learn along with Ned how to let go, build trust, and harvest joy from pain. Most of all, get a view of what selfless love looks like.
