Patience: Trusting God’s Plan

Patience is one of those values that is easy to talk about but much harder to live out. We know we need it, we admire it in others, and we pray for it often, yet it always seems to be tested in daily life. Whether it is patience in trials, patience with others, or patience in trusting God’s plan, this virtue is something God uses to shape us.

The Bible gives us many reminders about the importance of patience. In Psalm 37:7 we read, “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.” That simple verse captures so much truth. To rest in the Lord means to trust His goodness, His love, and His perfect timing. Waiting patiently is not about sitting still with gritted teeth. It is about waiting with peace in our hearts, knowing that God is at work even when we cannot see the outcome.

Patience is not something we develop overnight. It is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) that grows as we learn to walk closely with God. Sometimes it grows slowly, through struggles and disappointments, but that growth makes it even more meaningful. To encourage you in this journey, we want to highlight a few inspiring films now available on Living Scriptures+. Each one tells a story of patience lived out in powerful ways.

Running the Bases

Standing Firm with Patience

“Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”
— James 5:8

Running the Bases is a moving film about a small-town baseball coach who refuses to compromise his beliefs, even when it costs him dearly. His convictions are tested as he faces pressure to abandon his faith. Instead of giving in, he holds fast to his values and patiently endures the consequences.

This story mirrors the encouragement we find in James 5:8. Patience here is not about waiting for a bus or standing in line. It is about establishing your heart in faith and standing strong when life gets hard. The coach’s patience shows us that trusting God may not bring immediate relief, but it brings something greater: the assurance that we are living faithfully, even when others do not understand.

I Am Potential

Patience in Trials

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.”
— Romans 12:12

I Am Potential is based on the inspiring true story of Patrick Henry Hughes, a young man born without eyes and unable to walk. Despite these challenges, Patrick discovers a God-given musical talent that transforms his life. With the support of his devoted father, he learns to embrace life with courage and perseverance.

Patrick’s story brings Romans 12:12 to life. His patience in tribulation did not mean ignoring his hardships. Instead, he learned to rejoice in hope and to continue in faith. His life is a reminder that God often uses the very trials we wish away to reveal His glory in new ways. Watching this film, we are encouraged to see that patience in suffering does not diminish us—it refines us.

Savannah Sunrise

Patience in Relationships

With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.”
— Ephesians 4:2

Savannah Sunrise tells the story of a daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law on a road trip together. At first, the journey is marked by frustration, disagreements, and plenty of moments that test their tempers. Yet through their time together, something changes. Patience, humility, and forgiveness begin to break down barriers and build a stronger bond.

This film reflects the teaching of Ephesians 4:2. Relationships are often the place where our patience is tested most. It is easy to be kind to strangers for a short while, but much harder to remain patient with family members or close friends when stress rises. Savannah Sunrise reminds us that patience in relationships means choosing love over pride, listening instead of arguing, and respecting others even when we disagree.

The Animated Old Testament: Abraham & Isaac

Patience in God's Timing

“And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”
— Hebrews 6:15

The story of Abraham is one of the most powerful examples of patience in the Bible. God promised Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, but years went by without a child. Despite moments of doubt and weakness, Abraham continued to trust the Lord. Finally, after a long wait, Isaac was born.

The Animated Old Testament: Abraham & Isaac brings this story to life in a way that children and families can understand. It is a wonderful way to show that patience is not easy, but it is always worth it. Hebrews 6:15 sums up Abraham’s story perfectly: after patiently enduring, he received the promise. His example teaches us that patience is about trusting God’s faithfulness, even when the wait is long.

Why Patience Matters

Patience is more than a nice quality. It is a spiritual discipline that reflects our trust in God. When we choose patience, we are saying that God’s plan is better than ours, His timing is wiser, and His love is enough.

Patience also changes the way we treat others. It helps us listen instead of rushing to respond. It helps us forgive instead of holding grudges. It helps us love people where they are, just as God loves us. In our homes, workplaces, schools, and communities, patience builds peace and shows the world what it means to follow Christ.

Each of these films—Running the Bases, I Am Potential, Savannah Sunrise, and The Animated Old Testament: Abraham & Isaac—offers a different look at patience. They remind us that patience is not passive. It is active trust in God, steady love for others, and a willingness to keep moving forward with faith.

As you watch these stories, think about where God may be inviting you to practice patience in your own life. Is it in a season of waiting? Is it with a relationship that challenges you? Is it in the face of trials you never expected? Wherever you are, remember that patience is not something you muster up alone. It is a gift from God, nurtured by the Spirit, and strengthened by His Word.
