OVERCOMER is a story that encourages us to ask the question, “Who am I?” and helps us to uncover our true identity as a child of God. OVERCOMER is the 6th movie by the Kendrick Brothers, who also brought us WAR ROOM (2015), COURAGEOUS (2011), FIREPROOF (2008), FACING THE GIANTS (2006), AND FLYWHEEL (2003).

OVERCOMER Story Summary

OVERCOMER tells the story of baskeball coach John Harrison, whose life and community is turned upside down when the largest manufacturing plant in town shuts down and many families are forced to move away.

For years, John has created and felt comfortable in his identity as a basketball coach, and now that identity has been stripped away. When he’s asked to coach the cross-country team instead, he doesn’t want to take the position – he hates to run and he doesn’t feel like cross-country is a “real sport”.

John takes on the task anyway, and on the day of try-outs, only one girl shows up to try out – a young girl named Hannah who is struggling with her own battles with identity.

This inspiring film takes us on a journey to discover who gets to determine our identity, and what we have to do to overcome and embrace the life God has for us.

The movie release date for OVERCOMER in theaters is August 23, 2019.
