Love: Becoming More Like Christ

Jesus taught us one of the most important commandments when He said, “Love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34). His love was not limited or conditional. He showed compassion to the lonely, forgiveness to the broken, and kindness to those others overlooked. Christ’s love was active, intentional, and full of grace. He invites us to love others in the same way.

Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy or boast (1 Corinthians 13:4). This kind of love is more than a feeling. It is something we choose to live out each day. Sometimes loving others comes naturally, but other times it requires humility, forgiveness, and trust in God. When we love others, especially in difficult moments, we reflect the heart of Christ and grow closer to Him.

The Bible teaches that love is at the center of our faith. “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity” (1 Corinthians 13:13, KJV). Charity, or Christlike love, is the foundation of all Christian living. It shapes our relationships, our choices, and our purpose. When we love as Christ loves, we become instruments of His peace in the world.

This month, we invite you to explore four inspiring films on Living Scriptures+ that beautifully demonstrate the power of love. Each story reminds us that love has the power to heal, restore, and transform lives.

Amazing Love: The Story of Hosea

Amazing Love: The Story of Hosea tells a powerful story of faithfulness and forgiveness. Based on the biblical account of Hosea, the film shows a man’s unwavering love for his wife, even after she betrays him. His willingness to forgive reflects God’s endless love for His children.

This story reminds us that God’s love never gives up on us. Even when we fall short, His love remains steady and constant. As Romans 5:8 teaches, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Hosea’s example shows us that true love is patient, merciful, and willing to forgive.

Sense & Sensibility

Sense & Sensibility follows the journey of two sisters as they navigate heartbreak, sacrifice, and hope. Through their trials, they learn that love requires patience, humility, and trust. Their story shows that love is not always easy, but it is always worth choosing.

This film reflects the truth found in Colossians 3:14: “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” Love brings people together and strengthens us through life’s challenges. It teaches us to think of others and to trust that God’s plan is greater than our own.

The Animated New Testament: The Prodigal Son

The parable of the prodigal son is one of the clearest examples of God’s love. After leaving home and making poor choices, the son returns expecting rejection. Instead, his father runs to him with open arms, welcoming him with joy and compassion.

This animated retelling brings this powerful message to life for families. It reminds us that God’s love is unconditional. No matter how far we wander, He is always ready to welcome us home. As Psalm 136:26 says, “O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

The Ron Clark Story

The Ron Clark Story is an inspiring true story about a teacher who refuses to give up on his students. Through patience, encouragement, and compassion, he helps them believe in themselves and reach their potential.

His example reflects Christlike love in action. Love sees potential in others, even when they cannot see it themselves. It lifts others up, encourages growth, and creates hope. As 1 John 4:19 reminds us, “We love him, because he first loved us.” When we share love with others, we pass forward the love God has given to us.

Why Love Matters

Love is the foundation of everything we do as Christians. Jesus taught that loving God and loving others are the greatest commandments (Matthew 22:37–39). Love shapes our character and guides our actions. It helps us forgive, serve, and care for others, even when it is difficult.

Love also brings peace to our hearts. When we choose love, we choose faith over fear and grace over anger. We begin to see others through God’s eyes. We recognize their worth and treat them with kindness and respect.

Living with love does not mean life will be perfect. There will still be challenges, disagreements, and moments of pain. But love gives us the strength to move forward with hope. It reminds us that we are never alone, and that God’s love is always present.

Living with Christlike Love

Christ’s love is the perfect example for us to follow. He served others selflessly, forgave freely, and loved unconditionally. When we strive to love as He did, we become more like Him.

Love can be shown in simple ways. It can be a kind word, a listening ear, or an act of service. It can be choosing forgiveness instead of holding onto hurt. It can be offering encouragement when someone needs it most. These small acts of love reflect God’s presence in our lives.

Each of the films featured this month reminds us that love has the power to change lives. Whether through forgiveness, compassion, or encouragement, love brings healing and hope.
