Come Follow Me

with

Remember Him

Reinforces this week’s “Come Follow Me” study: Easter
“He Will Swallow Up Death in Victory”

Scripture:

Exodus 12:14

“And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.”

Song:

To Think About Jesus, Children’s Songbook page 71

Lesson:

After the first nine plagues in Egypt, the Lord sent a tenth plague that would kill the firstborn of each household. The Israelites were commanded to do certain things to avoid this plague, including taking a male lamb without blemish and using the blood to mark the door posts of the house. They would then eat the meat of the lamb with bitter herbs and unleavened bread. This was done to symbolize Jesus Christ and His Atonement. Each year after, the Israelites would remember their deliverance from Egypt and look forward to their deliverance from sin by celebrating the Passover and eating this special meal.

Just before His death, Jesus Christ blessed and shared bread and wine with his disciples and told them to eat and drink in remembrance of Him. We now remember Him by partaking of the sacrament each week. At Eastertime especially, we remember His great sacrifice and His miraculous resurrection which gives us hope and peace.

Quote:

“As Lamb of God, Jesus’s divine mission was foreordained and rejoiced in by apostles and prophets. His Atonement, infinite and eternal, is central to the plan of happiness and the purpose of creation. He assures us that He carries us next to His heart.” Gerrit W. Gong
