OLD TESTAMENT 2022

Come Follow Me

with

He Was Wounded for Our Transgressions

Reinforces this week’s “Come Follow Me” study: Isaiah 50-57
“He Hath Borne Our Griefs, and Carried our Sorrows”

Scripture:

Isaiah 53:4-5

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Song:

I Stand All Amazed, verse 3, Hymn #193

Lesson:

Isaiah foretold the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ didn’t come as a famous leader or powerful warrior, He came as a meek and humble “man of sorrows.” (Isaiah 53:3) Many people didn’t see Jesus as a deliverer or Messiah because they were expecting something different. Jesus Christ came as a lamb, and He is also known as the Lamb of God. He was willing to sacrifice Himself for our sakes. Jesus Christ suffered for us and took upon Himself our pains, transgressions (sins), and sorrows through the Atonement. Because of His Atonement we can find peace, healing, and forgiveness. If we keep the commandments and seek repentance we are promised peace and exaltation in the life to come.

Quote:

“As Lamb of God, Jesus’s divine mission was foreordained and rejoiced in by apostles and prophets. His Atonement, infinite and eternal, is central to the plan of happiness and the purpose of creation. He assures us that He carries us next to His heart.” Gerrit W. Gong
