Cuddle Up with a Date and “The Dance”

Need a romantic movie you can watch while snuggling on the? The tough part may be finding one that makes you think and doesn’t make you want to cover your eyes or ears. Luckily, Living Scriptures has a new release on their live-streaming site. Created by the same studio who brought you The Best Two Years, this romantic drama called The Dance will have you smiling and learning.

Cameron, a busy returned missionary and Harvard student, is convinced to take a night off and go to a stake dance. It’s hosted by his English literature professor, Charles Gordon, and dates are expected. In a last-minute scramble, Cameron asks his brother’s ex-girlfriend, Zoe, to go with him to the dance. The problem? She’s not LDS. She and Cameron both wonder if it was a mistake for her to come to a church event. Can they learn to look beyond appearances and histories?

At least one person is excited to be at the dance . . . initially. Alyson arrives with excitement at the prospect of her first date since her divorce, but her enthusiasm dies quickly at the hands of her date. Howard, the MC of the dance, may be a highly successful businessman, but he can’t seem to make it two minutes without offending his date. Can Alyson teach the sarcastic and prejudiced Howard to listen and open up?

Meanwhile, Charles Gordon has his own problems. He can quote Shakespeare’s sonnets and lecture his students about their dating lives, but the truth is that his marriage is falling apart. He’s sick of getting the cold shoulder from his wife, who’s sick of Charles taking her for granted and spending his time on anything else. As they keep the food tables stocked at the stake dance, Charles and Laura try to figure out where they’ve gone wrong and whether there’s a future left for them.

The Dance is a vivid reminder of how complex a relationship can be and that love is a decision. Enjoy a clean, introspective, and uplifting look at three couples and how they make an ordinary night a turning point in their lives. Oh—and feel free to invite a date!
