FHE Lesson – Preparing Our Family for Eternal Life

Being part of a family is a great blessing. Some families have a father, mother, brothers, and sisters. Others have a single parent with children, while other families consist of just one or two persons.

When Howard W. Hunter was a boy, his father was not a member of the church, but his home was filled with correct principles and a loving atmosphere. Howard’s mother faithfully prepared her family for eternal life. She taught her children to pray, took them to church and instilled in them a love for the gospel. As Howard’s testimony grew, like his mother, he too became a great example to all who knew him.

FHE Lesson – This is the Right Place

When Jesus was on the earth, He gave His 12 Disciples power, “to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease” (Matthew 10:1). This power is called the priesthood.

The priesthood is the eternal power and authority of God. It is the power to cure illness and lift burdens. It allows us to perform ordinances like baptism. One of the greatest blessings of the priesthood is that it makes it possible to go to the temple and be sealed together as a family forever.

FHE Lesson – Another Testament of Jesus Christ

Studying the scriptures together as a family helps our testimonies of Jesus Christ grow.

Scriptures of the Restoration (Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price) do not compete with the Bible; they complement the Bible. These scriptures, along with the Bible testify of Christ. They teach that He is the Son of God, that He atoned for our sins, that He died upon the cross and was resurrected. By reading the scriptures we learn of Jesus Christ and what we must do to live with Him, our Heavenly Father and our families for eternity.

We can pray as a family to better understand what we are reading, and to help us know if what we are reading is true. Family Home Evening is good time to pray and study scriptures together. Doing all of these things as a family (Family Home Evening, reading scriptures, and praying) strengthens our testimonies of Jesus Christ.

FHE Lesson – The Prophet Joseph Smith’s Family

Long before Joseph Smith was born his Grandfather said that one of his descendants would begin a work to change the world of religious faith.

Joseph Smith had hardworking and faithful parents. As a family they prayed, sang, went to church, and read the Bible. They always tried to obey the teachings of Jesus.

Joseph always tried to show love, tenderness and concern for his family. After Joseph was prophet he learned and taught about the importance of eternal families.
