Matthew 2:1-2
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”
Stars Were Gleaming Children’s Songbook page 37
Angels appeared to humble shepherds, announcing the birth of Jesus Christ. The shepherds were invited to go and see the baby Jesus. After they had seen Jesus, they went about telling others what they had seen. When Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple, Simeon and Anna both bore testimony of the special child, that he would bring salvation and redemption to his people. Later, Wise Men traveled far to see little Jesus. They were filled with joy when they saw the star that led to where He was. They visited Jesus, bringing Him gifts and falling down to worship Him. The wise men, Simeon, Anna, and the shepherds were all seeking for the Savior and bore testimony of Him to others. Just as the wise men brought gifts to the Savior, we can give Him the gift our our hearts, our time, and our obedience.
As Jesus grew he increased in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man. (See Luke 2:52). Each of us can grow and improve ourselves physically, increase our learning, learn to love and take care of others, and seek to follow our Heavenly Father as Jesus did.
“I believe that each of us can re-create that familiar scene in Bethlehem in our own lives. We can have a star to follow just as the Wise Men did… The scriptures can light our way, and our testimonies can be a light from within. The voices of angels can be the voices of our beloved prophet and His servants. We can kneel at the feet of our Savior just as literally as the shepherds and the Wise Men, but we do it in prayer. The gifts we bring are our talents.”
