Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Silent Night, Hymn #204
Throughout the Old Testament we have learned about God and His promises to the House of Israel. One of the greatest promises was that a Savior would come to redeem us from our sins. Through His atonement our salvation would be made possible. He would love us and help us.
Many prophets in the Old Testament foretold of His life and teachings. They foretold of His death and sacrifice. The foretold of His triumph over death and His eventual return. They rejoiced in His goodness, mercy, and majesty. They pleaded with their people and with future generations to follow Him and believe in Him.
At Christmastime we remember the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophesies of Christ’s birth and life on earth. May we rejoice in Christ and share His love with others during this special Christmas season.
“We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles—that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.” The Living Christ, paragraph 13
We can come to know Christ better by learning of His many names in the scriptures. Decorate ornaments with names of Christ in this family activity.
