Song:

Lesson:

Many of the Psalms in this week’s lesson have a note in the heading that says, “to the chief musician.” They were meant to share testimony and inspire others. Some of these inspiring messages are found in our hymns today. Here are just a few inspiring lines:

  • “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee” (Psalm 55:22)
  • “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2-3)
  • “O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared they wondrous works.” (Psalm 71:17)
  • “And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory: Amen, and Amen.” (Psalm 72:19)

Quote:

“Sacred music has a unique capacity to communicate our feelings of love for the Lord. This kind of communication is a wonderful aid to our worship. Many have difficulty expressing worshipful feelings in words, but all can join in communicating such feelings through the inspired words of our hymns.” Dallin H. Oaks

Q&A:

  • How do hymns and primary songs help us?
  • What does it mean to “cast [our] burden on the Lord?”
  • How is Jesus Christ like a rock?
  • What things have we been taught in our youth about God?
  • How can we share our testimonies and help “the whole earth be filled with his glory?”
