Zechariah 1:4
“Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.”

Haggai and Zechariah returned to Jerusalem as the Jews were rebuilding the temple. Many of the people were busy doing other things instead of helping with the temple. Haggai told them to “consider their ways” and focus on the work of rebuilding the temple of the Lord. Zechariah encouraged the people to become more holy by repenting and doing good. He taught them to be compassionate and merciful and to help the poor and needy. Zechariah also prophecied of Jesus Christ’s life and His eventual Second Coming.
“Greater holiness will not come simply by asking for it. It will come by doing what is needed for God to change us.”
